I've worked with Paul for three years as a government inspector prosecuting environmental crimes. His office has been very supportive in our civil cases and has produced excellent results. I find him personable, knowledgeable, energetic, and talented. I have over 25 years experience in the environmental field and I have worked with several DAs, federal, and state prosecutors. In my opinion, Paul is among the best in his field and just the kind of prosecutor we need in this beautiful and fragile county.
What is your stance on Code Enforcement?
When I took office I inherited a system that was ripe for abuse. The code enforcement officers were deputized by my office and yet, were not my employees; I had no oversight over them or their actions. The result of which our community knows well and still feels the pain from.
I would like to apologize to the people for my role in this. I am the face of government locally and the government wronged the people; and I know the wounds are still there. My office will not circumvent the fourth amendment. When this issue to my attention I immediately revoked their deputy status and took their guns away. It was power without oversight, and it will not happen again.
